Shipping From Egypt: How Billed Weight and Free Grams Lower Your Cost Per Kilo
How billed weight works when you ship from Egypt: free grams, per-kilo bands and HomeMerge™
By the HurryNCash™ Shipping Team · Hurry N Cash Inc., Delaware, USA · Last updated October 2026 · 5-minute read
Short answer: HurryNCash™ rounds the billed weight of a parcel up to the next 0.5 kg when it weighs up to 5 kg, and up to the next whole kilo above 5 kg. The gap between your actual weight and the billed weight is yours to fill with no extra shipping charge, and the cost per kilo falls as billed weight rises. Rates differ by destination country, so the calculator below shows weight and rate band, not price.

How billed weight is calculated
Billing follows two published rules, the same for every parcel:
- Up to 5 kg: weight is rounded up to the next 0.5 kg.
- Above 5 kg: weight is rounded up to the next whole kilo.
There are no hidden tiers. The table shows how real parcel weights turn into billed weight, free grams and rate band.
| Actual weight | Billed weight | Free grams | Rate band |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.80 kg | 1.0 kg | 200 g | Standard |
| 1.20 kg | 1.5 kg | 300 g | Standard |
| 4.70 kg | 5.0 kg | 300 g | Standard |
| 5.20 kg | 6 kg | 800 g | Reduced |
| 7.01 kg | 8 kg | 990 g | Reduced |
| 10.40 kg | 11 kg | 600 g | Lowest |
Free grams: the weight you have already paid for
Free grams are the difference between what your parcel weighs and what it is billed as. A parcel of 1.20 kg is billed as 1.5 kg, which leaves 300 g you can fill without changing the shipping charge. Past that point, even a few extra grams move the parcel to the next billed step.
Dense, light items make the best use of a small buffer. Customers often fill it with Egyptian spices for the USA and Canada, a pack of Siwa dates shipped abroad, or items from our guide to the best Egyptian snacks to ship with per-gram shipping. Before adding anything, check the list of items not allowed to ship, which is shown at checkout.
Why the cost per kilo falls as weight rises
Every shipment has a fixed part (handling, paperwork, packaging) and a part that grows with weight. The heavier the billed weight, the more kilos share the fixed part, so each kilo costs less. HurryNCash™ shows this as three bands:
- Standard: billed weight up to 5 kg.
- Reduced: billed weight above 5 kg.
- Lowest: billed weight above 10 kg.
This is the idea behind Per-Gram Engine™, our transparent per-gram shipping that finally treats light cultural items fairly. For the full reasoning, read smart per-gram shipping from Egypt and how sending more home lowers the cost per kilo. If you want the technical view, the Per-Gram Engine™ and HomeMerge™ protocol explained walks through how both systems fit together.
Combine shipments with HomeMerge™
HomeMerge™ is Smart Consolidation that turns scattered parcels into one sensible delivery. It lets you add a parcel collected from a home or address in Egypt, such as documents, a gift parcel or personal items, to the products you buy from the HurryNCash™ store, so everything ships together as one heavier shipment.
- Available at checkout, where the list of items not allowed to ship is also shown.
- No minimum and no maximum for parcels collected from Egypt.
- No extra pick-up fees.
- Door-to-door international shipping, so the heavier the combined shipment, the lower the cost per kilo.
